My name is Gayle and I'm a caretaker. I admit it. I say that because I'm not only a caretaker by circumstance.... (I have a daughter with cerebral palsy and and my dear mother also needs my care due to aging issues), but I seem to have always made choices in which I would need to take care of something or someone. I didn't really realize that fact until I decided to write this blog. As an only child, I was raised by wonderful parents who were a doctor and nurse by profession. They owned their own clinic for much of my growing years and I was greatly influenced by watching my parents care for their patients. At some point, the desire to care for others must have become an integral part of my personality. But alas, born a baby boomer, the unthinkable has happened! I myself am feeling the effects of the aging process.... Yikes! Not a fan! But it is what it is, as they say.... So, instead of being able to rely on youthful energy, I have now been forced to take care of myself, THE CARETAKER! Since my daughter, Michelle and my mother, Darlene are two of the most precious people I know, I want to be able to continue to be a part of their care and their lives. My oldest daughter Christine, while not having a disability, is a very busy mother of three and she is honestly the most amazing parent I've ever seen. Even so, she needs my support. And, of course, I want to have lots of energy left over to play with my beautiful grandchildren - Avery, Coco and Evan!! I've gained experience over the years, but I continue to gather valuable information for myself and others so that we can all continue to care for those we love.
